How to Apply to JPC: For Prospective Students

Students who have a commitment to service, and would like to connect it to their research are encouraged to apply to the Jefferson Public Citizens program (JPC). The program provides students from all schools with the opportunity to make a positive change locally, nationally or internationally.

Tips from Past Year's JPC Students

  • "Don't overbook yourself."
  • "Be ambitious but build delays into your timeline."
  • "Ask questions and go meet people."
  • "Don't be afraid to jump on a JPC team in your 1st and 2nd year!"
  • "Start your proposal writing early!"
  • "Listen to the experts in the field [faculty, community members]. Approach the experts, listen to their criticisms and consider the long term effects of your project."
  • "Have multiple mentors."
  • "Plan on doubling the time your need for your project. Or, better yet, cut the project scope in half."
  • "Take a class to get prepared for your topic."
  • "Have a Plan B, Plan C, and Plan D."
  • "Be flexible and ready to adapt to changes."
